Network Analysis

Service Areas

A service area is the zone around a location that can be reached within a specified amount of time. This map illustrates the 3-Minute service areas of each Starbucks location in Riverside. In other words, all areas in red are within a three minute travel time by car towards the given Starbucks location.

Origin-Destination Cost Matrix

This image is a simple origin-destination cost matrix displaying the travel time from one closing store to other surrounding stores. This was done to understand how closing the store might affect its regular customers, who would have to switch to another location. If there were not enough locations close by, Starbucks might lose regular customers who do not want to make the drive to another location.

Service Areas Over Demographic Data

The image to the left simply displays the service area of two Starbucks locations overlayed on the population of voting age adults. It is assumed that adults at this age and higher are the majority of those who drink coffee. Having Starbucks locations in areas with a higher voting age populations ideally means more coffee drinkers, and more business.
